Check out our OTHER listing — the Captain’s Quarters — in the same historic building on the top floor, one bedroom with king bed!
Voted in 2019 River Travel Magazine as one of the top 5 “Most Romantic Getaways” along the Mississippi River.
The space
Situated on the Mighty Mississippi, the Old Mill Guest House (the lower level of the building) contains all the historic charm of the town it resides in.
Our “cabin-like” rental, although a two bedroom, is 600 square feet. Each bedroom has a locking door as well as the bathroom, but it is not a spacious home! A chiropractor is available during the day on the main floor. Appointments may be necessary, but
Dr. Crystal would be happy to schedule your session.
Guest access
Parking is on the main street with a limestone block sidewalk that winds down the side of the house to back side facing the river. There are about a half-dozen easy and low steps that lead down to the entrance. The 22-inch original limestone walls make this a VERY quiet stay, even with the busy street out front. Because LeClaire is a typical river town, one has to contend with railroad — fair warning, you WILL have an occasional train that runs the tracks between the house and the river, not extremely bothering unless outside. Even then, they are quick to pass — for the train lover, this will be a PLUS. But nowhere in town is immune to the passing of the trains.
Other things to note
In the kitchen, we have a sink, small refrigerator, coffee and coffee maker, microwave, and a toaster oven. If it’s movie night, there is a DVD player and also several complimentary HBO channels. There is also an outlet with two USB charging ports for your cell phone or tablet. We usually have microwave popcorn to enjoy in front of the cozy fireplace (electric). We also supply most toiletries — soap, shampoo, hairdryer, toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, etc. In the bedroom closet, you’ll have an iron and board for any last-minute touch-ups. Also, an umbrella for rainy days and binoculars for bird or boat watching. We also have a gas BBQ grill on the patio for use if you are inclined to have a cookout.
